Avocados are delicious. From amazing breakfast meals to mouthwatering dips, they are an essential ingredient in dozens of dishes. However, they are not the easiest food to deal with. Not only are they tough to shop for, they are sort of tough to crack open. That is, unless you know this simple trick. If you want to learn how to quickly de-pit an avocado, follow these simple steps.

1. Cut the avocado open by inserting the knife on the side of the avocado and cutting all the way around it.

2. Pull the halves apart, with the pit firmly stuck in one half of the avocado.

3. Carefully take your knife and chop deep into the pit. You should do this with a quick, forceful swing of the knife.

4. Once the knife is in there, twist the knife and pit to the side.

5. Voilà! The pit should easily pop out. Now you can start enjoying your avocado without wasting a ton of time!

This Life Hack Will Ripen Your Avocado In Just 10 Minutes

Few things compare to the disappointment of getting ready to eat an avocado and realizing it isn't ripe yet. You're left with a hand full of rock-hard avocado and a heart full of woe—a true food tragedy. But what if I told you it didn't have to be that way? A life hack is now going viral because it promises to rid people of these sad, unripe avocado moments with just an oven, some tin foil, and about 10 minutes worth of time. Talk about a game-changer.

The hack is simple. Start by gathering your ingredients: a baking sheet, tin foil, and the avocado you have your heart set on. While you pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees, wrap your little green fruit in tin foil and place it on the baking sheet. After that, just pop the sheet in the oven and count to 10 (minutes). And voila: your avocado should be good to go. You'll want to give it some time to cool off in your fridge before you dig in, but seriously—it's that easy.

The hack warns that some avocados are more stubborn than others, so it might take up to an hour to ripen your little beauty. Still, an hour is nothing compared to the several days you might have had to wait otherwise, so the hack still stands.

So how does this work, exactly? Basically: Avocados release a little thing called ethylene gas, which is what makes them soft and ripe. (Many other fruits like bananas, peaches, and tomatoes do the same.) This gas is usually released slowly—causing the avocados to ripen over time—but when you wrap it in tinfoil, you've essentially trapped the gas and sped up the ripening process. Placing an avocado in a sealed paper bag will have a similar effect (capturing the gas and accelerating the ripening), though this will likely take days as opposed to minutes.

Chips and salsa is one of the most universal snacks around. Heck, decent Mexican restaurants will give it to you for free so you can be full by the time your entree arrives.

With the Super Bowl just a matter of days away, many of us will be stocking up on various chips and dips to stress eat while watching commercials. Though many of us already think of Tostitos as the quintessential chips and salsa brand, a new, trendy product cements their status as the MVP of tortilla and dip producers.

This week, Instagram food hunter @JunkFoodintheTrunk3 spotted Tostitos’ new avocado salsa, an all-star dipping option that seems to promise exactly just that: your typical salsa, but “made with real avocados” as the jar states.

According to a product listing from Walmart’s website, each 15-ounce jar features real chunks of garden vegetables alongside real avocados for a delicious and creamy salsa blend. While I share some of @JunkFoodintheTrunk3’s skepticism about the viability of unrefrigerated jarred avocados, this’ll probably be such a hit at your Super Bowl party that the jar will be long gone by the time its expiration date rolls around.

You could argue that this dip is a bit of a cop out, but if you have a lot of people to entertain and limited time (or just don’t want to injure yourself), this jar of avocado salsa is a definite life hack when it comes to prepping for the 𠇋ig Game.” I bet if you poured it into a bowl, hit it with some lime juice, and called it guacamole, most of your guests would be none the wiser.

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350F.
  2. You lined your baking dish with parchment paper.
  3. Combine all the other ingredients in a food processor on medium and low power until smooth.
  4. If you overmix the batter, then the brownies will be cakey. You can use a spatula to scrape the mixture and then fold it together. Mash the chunks of avocados that left.
  5. Use your spatula to transfer the batter into the baking dish and smooth it even out evenly.’
  6. You can top these brownies with what you like. It’s good if you use chocolate chips.
  7. Bake the batter for 25 minutes until the edges left the sides of the dish.
  8. Take out the brownies dish from the oven and let it cool for 15 minutes before handling it.
  9. Carefully, pick the brownies up by the parchment paper and set them on the cutting board.
  10. Cut it into a square shape and store the leftover pieces in the fridge for up to a week.

Avocado toast has risen as a popular food trend over the years, and I really never understood the obsession. Did you know Avocado toast has its own Wikipedia page? Apparently it has been a “thing” in SanFrancisco since the 1980s, but became more popular as a more “Hollywood cafe trend” among stars like Gwyneth Paltrow.

So lets take a look here at what the hype is about. Avocados are widely known as a healthy superfood. Although high in calories they boast a ton of benefits including vitamins C, E, K, and B-6, as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and potassium. They contain cholesterol lowering elements, antioxidants to help vision, vitamin K that helps with bone health, among many many more benefits that you can get to with a quick Google search. I decided to stop fighting against it and its “hoity Toity” sterotype, when I was evaluating my food choices. This recipe is incredibly simple, so simple that its hard to even call it a recipe! But, I’ve also added some of my other favorite more in depth recipes to add to your Avocado toast obsession! Even my picky 12 year old now wakes up and begs for me to make her my special Avocado toast!


Peel an orange with ease.


Laziness is no longer an excuse for not eating your fruit! Oranges are delicious, but let’s face it, peeling them is a pain. But does it have to be? Not if you use this orange-peeling hack from Jewelpie.com. Put your orange down on a cutting board. Use a knife to slice off a thin bit from the end, and then do the same thing with the end opposite. Next, cut a perpendicular line. You want to go almost clean through the orange, but not all the way. Then you can pull both ends away from each other and stretch out the orange in a long strip. Then you can just grab each slice off the strip and enjoy!
